Inspire to achieve

The Tenants Information Service (TIS) is delighted to invite entries across eight categories for the TIS National Excellence Awards 2019: Inspire to achieve, in association with the Scottish Government.

The awards recognise and celebrate housing organisations, staff, volunteers, tenants, residents, and community groups who are leading the way and making a difference within the Scottish social housing sector.

Categories honour excellence in everything from, partnership working and scrutiny practice, to digital innovation and community regeneration. Hotly anticipated, the awards offer a seal of approval for the most outstanding work across the sector. A full list of the 2019 categories is listed below. The closing date for nominations is Monday 22nd March 2019 at 12pm. 

The categories

Award categories open to an individual staff member, volunteer, apprentice, or tenant:

  • Young Achiever of the Year • Individual under the age of 30 award
    Sponsored by Tenants and Residents East Ayrshire

    This award recognises a volunteer, individual member of staff, or apprentice under the age of 30 who has demonstrated commitment, creativity, and passion in the work that they do throughout the Scottish social rented sector.
    Submissions must evidence how the individual has: inspired others; demonstrated an ability to go above and beyond; a willingness to learn and build new skills; shown initiative to overcome challenges; developed new ideas and highlighted opportunities; and/or a positive outlook.

  • Tenant Participation ChampionHousing organisation staff member award
    Sponsored by

    This award recognises an individual member of staff who has demonstrated a commitment to empowering tenants, residents, and community groups to work together, have their say, and influence decisions about housing policies, services and standards.
    Submissions must evidence how the individual has driven tenant participation forward within their organisation to achieve great practice that others can learn from in the future.

  • Excellence in Digital InnovationsHousing organisation award
    Sponsored by

    This award recognises an outstanding digital innovation that has made a real difference to the lives of tenants, inclusion of communities, outcomes of scrutiny tasks, delivery of housing services, and/or improvement of satisfaction levels.Submissions must evidence how the organisation has pioneered an innovative service, approach, or technology.

  • Danny Mullen Scrutiny ExcellenceHousing organisation award
    Sponsored by West Lothian Tenants Housing Network in Partnership with West Lothian Council Tenant Participation Team

    This award recognises an exceptional standard of tenant led scrutiny activities that have made a real difference to the lives of tenants, the delivery of housing services, and improvement of satisfaction levels.
    Submissions must evidence how the organisation has embedded scrutiny within their strategic approach, and empowered tenants, residents, and community groups to work together, have their say, and influence decisions about housing policies, services and standards.

  • Excellence in RegenerationHousing organisation award
    Sponsored by CIH Scotland

    This award recognises an outstanding regeneration project. Initiatives can include a new social or mid-market rent housing development; community garden, hub or service; development of a sense of place; and/or overall improved living conditions.
    Submissions must evidence how the organisation has worked in partnership with the local and wider community to revitalise the area and provide long term benefits.

  • Frances Nelson MBE Excellence • Individual award
    Sponsored by

    This award recognises an inspiring volunteer who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to adding value to their local area and improving community spirit; strengthening relationships and communication; championing tenant participation and finding innovative new ways to get people involved; influencing decisions and housing policies, services and standards; and/or driving community regeneration projects forward.
    Submissions must evidence how the individual has empowered tenants, residents, and community groups to work together, have their say, and influence decisions about housing policies, services and standards.

  • Most Inspiring Scrutiny GroupGroup award

    This award recognises an exceptional standard of scrutiny practice that has made a real difference to the lives of tenants, the delivery of housing services, and improvement of satisfaction levels.
    Submissions must evidence how the group has worked in partnership to embedded scrutiny within their housing organisation’s strategic approach and have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to empowering tenants to work together, have their say, and influence decisions about housing policies, services and standards.

  • Tenants Group of the YearGroup award
    Sponsored by

    This award recognises a tenants, residents, or community group who has made an outstanding contribution and achieved great practice that others can learn from in the future.
    Submissions must evidence how the group has added value to their local area and improved community spirit; strengthened relationships and communication; championed tenant participation and found innovative new ways to get people involved; influenced decisions and housing policies, services and standards; and/or driven community regeneration projects forward.

How to apply

Please submit your nomination form by emailing it to info@tis.org.uk or posting to TIS, Clockwise, 77 Renfrew Street, Glasgow G2 3BZ. The closing date for nominations is Friday 22nd March 2019 at 12pm. 

All application forms will be acknowledged on receipt by TIS. 

Finalists are selected by an expert and independent judging panel of representatives from across the sector. The awards will be presented on Saturday 15th June at the Doubletree by Hilton Westerwood Hotel and Resort as part of the TIS Annual Conference 2019 Gala Dinner.
