As part of the national TIS Tenant Scrutiny Programme, 75 tenants, housing staff, Elected Members and Board Members gathered in Edinburgh last week for the highly successful TIS Scrutiny Good Practice Conference.
Delegates attending the TIS Scrutiny Conference were updated by Angela Currie, Director of Scottish Housing Best Value Network at the opening session, followed by a range of interactive workshops, facilitated by leading experts representing Local Authorities, Registered Social Landlords and Tenants and Residents Groups. These informative workshops looked at developing a Scrutiny Panel, Tenant Led Inspections and Mystery Shopping. Delegates not only gained valuable information from the day, but shared good practice and inspiration through networking.
The event also saw the launch of the TIS Scrutiny ‘How To’ Guide, which has been designed to act as a practical handbook to take tenants and landlords through step-by-step processes to achieve successful tenant scrutiny activities.
Ilene Campbell, Director of TIS commented “The conference was a huge success and delegates fed back that they found the TIS ‘How To’ Guide a very useful resource. The guide is an element of our ‘Making It Happen’ Scrutiny Programme, which was launched in 2012, and to date has 36 organisations enrolled with the aim of making Tenant Scrutiny a reality in Scotland.”
The TIS Scrutiny ‘How To’ Guide is available free to those taking part in the TIS ‘Making It Happen’ Scrutiny programme and members of TIS.
TIS are about to re-launch their membership services. Landlords, tenants and other interested organisations are all invited to join TIS and enjoy the wide ranging benefits that are exclusively available to members. If you are interested in joining TIS, please contact Leanne Blunsden on 0141 248 1242 or email@example.com.
“All breakout sessions were excellent. I feel well informed to go back to my group and put this on our agenda” – Anonymous Conference Delegate
“Great to share info and meet new people who want to share their experiences and views on Scrutiny” – Anonymous Conference Delegate
“I just had to email you to let you guys know that last Thursday was the best thing I have been to for ages – very practical and useful…We are just at the start of Tenant Scrutiny and I reckon when we look back, the TIS day on 19.09.13 will be identified as the start of our Tenant Scrutiny journey.
I am going to keep a record of what we do from now on, and hope that in the future, Hillcrest tenants can be guests at an event , sharing our experiences with others.
Thanks to all the TIS team for a great day.” – Carol Petrie, Tenant Participation Officer, Hillcrest Housing Association
