The TIS AGM invites our membership community to come together and join us in reflecting on our pinnacle achievements and highlights from the past year – and as we look ahead to an exciting future, leading the way as experts in housing, community development, and engagement practice.

Charleston Matters: Community-Led Change in Dundee

Charleston Matters is an inspiring grassroots community group established in 2023 by a group of local mums who wanted to make a positive difference in their community in Dundee.

With support from the What Matters to You initiative working with the Community Learning & development Team from Dundee City Council, the group has grown into an independent, community-led organisation, bringing families together, creating opportunities for children and young people, and ensuring local people have a stronger voice in decisions affecting their neighbourhood.

From organising family activities and community events to working with local services to improve their area, Charleston Matters demonstrates what can happen when communities are supported to take the lead.

Their achievements were recognised nationally when they won the Community Group Award at the BBC Scotland Make a Difference Awards 2026.

Their story is a powerful example of grassroots participation, community empowerment and the difference that local people can make when their voices are heard.
