Innovation theatre: Learn about the international perspectives on creating homes in a safe place, surrounded by fair rules and reasonable conditions.
Marie Linder is the President of both the Swedish Union of Tenants (SUT) and International Union of Tenants (IUT), and will join us all the way from Sweden, to deliver a main session on how other parts of the world fight for sustainable housing policies and the universal human right to adequate and affordable housing.
The Swedish Union of Tenants (SUT) is an organisation devoted to making sure everyone has the right to good housing at an affordable cost. Marie, will share an international perspective and outline the inspiring work of the SUT and their vision, as one of Sweden’s largest popular movements, to fight for a society where tenants have the opportunity to create their own home, in a safe place, surrounded by fair rules and reasonable conditions.
Marie Linder is the President of the Swedish Union of Tenants (SUT) since 2014 and has been active in the tenant movement for more than 30 years and is still engaged in her local association “The Coriander” where she still lives as a tenant.
Previously head of communication for the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO), Marie knows the power of organising grassroots movements to create political leverage. This came to a point in 2019 when the SUT challenged the government’s introduction of market rents in the Swedish housing market and culminated in the resignation of the Swedish PM Stefan Löfven. In addition to being the President of the SUT, Marie is also the President of the International Union of Tenants (IUT), a position that she has held since 2019, and to which she was re-elected in April 2023. Marie continues to fight for sustainable housing policies and the universal human right to adequate and affordable housing.
