National Housing Conference programme update: Join us to hear from Dundee City Council and Gilfoot Tenants and Residents Action Group

This year TIS will provide delegates with the opportunity to pre-book their choice of study visit and workshops in advance of the event. Half of the amount of study visit and workshop tickets are available to pre-book, and the remaining half will be available at registration each day.

Workshop: Implementing a domestic abuse policy
Michelle Harrow – Service Manager – Housing (Neighbourhood Services) at Dundee City Council

The workshop will provide context on the domestic abuse position in Dundee, focusing on policy development with examples of how it’s worked in practice. Michelle will highlight good practice examples, as well as lessons learned and the next steps going forward.

Michelle is the Service Manager for the Housing Service with Dundee City Council. She has been in this role for just over 2 years but has 20 years experience of working in the Housing sector ensuring services are designed and delivered with people who use them. Michelle understands the importance of a safe, secure place to call home and uses this as a driver to make a positive difference in the housing outcomes for people in Dundee. Michelle is a board member of a housing association in Glasgow chosen for being community led with tenant representation on the board. She is also the current chair of Dundee’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau and the local community planning partnership.

Workshop: The journey of Gilfoot TARAG
Renee Stirrat – Treasurer at Gilfoot Tenants and Residents Action Group

Members of the Gilfoot Tenants and Residents Action Group (TARAG) invite you share their journey from the initial set up as a Facebook Group during the Covid-19 Pandemic, to becoming a hugely successful Registered Tenant Organisation.

Come along to find out about the group’s successes and challenges and how its members are working together to improve housing and other services within this community in Newmilns, East Ayrshire. As well as finding out about the group’s increased influence with housing, police, fire services and others, the group members will demonstrate its community benefit achievements and how this work has made the area a positive place to live, with other people now wanting to move to the area.
